Our history

SFS's history began as early as 1928 in the former Stadler hardware store in Altstätten. Presswerk Heerbrugg AG was founded in 1960 and laid the foundations for the international development of the industrial business.

SFS manages and develops historical knowledge

Screw threads have come a long way from their humble beginnings in ancient Greece to their modern use today. The first known use of screw threads occurred in 400 BC when Archytas of Tarentum, a Greek philosopher sometimes called the "father of mechanics", invented them.

In 1568, Frenchman Jacques Besson developed a machine to make screws and bolts together with a screw-cutting disc for use in lathes. This progress laid the foundations for the industrial revolution of the 19th century, when screws, nuts and bolts came to the fore.

An important part of modern technology, metric screw threads have been used for over a hundred years

The development of metric thread standards was founded in Switzerland in 1876 by Professor Marc Thury. This was later developed further in Germany in 1894 by the physicist Leopold Loewenherz. From these Swiss and German threads, the foundation for our modern standard was laid by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Since 1960, ISO metric threads have been promoted as a global standard. We at SFS have provided customers worldwide with superior products and fastening solutions for almost 100 years. As technology and needs continue to evolve, we at SFS are determined to be at the forefront of our product development and offer you the best solution.
